Edmond Dentist Talks About Foods That Clean Your Teeth
When you think about the hot summer it’s easy to think about swimming and maintaining your “summer body”, but what about your summer smile? If you’re dieting you should make certain that whatever you’re eating is good for your teeth, too. Perhaps, you never thought about what types of foods would actually promote dental health before. Today, our Edmond dentist is providing a small list of foods that are good at cleaning teeth.
Here is a list of 3 food types that our Edmond dentist wanted to share with you, today:
Real whole grains (such as bran, brown rice, whole-grain breads, whole-grain cereals, and whole-grain pasta) are:
- High in fiber
- A source of magnesium
- Rich in iron
The high fiber content keeps saliva flowing, which helps create mineral defenses against tooth decay. The magnesium inside the whole grains is an important ingredient for bones and teeth, too. Furthermore, the iron is great at helping to keep gums healthy.
When consumed in moderation meat is actually a good source of vital minerals for teeth. In fact, beef, chicken, turkey, eggs, and fatty fish (like salmon) contain phosphorus which can help buffer acids in the mouth to keep teeth cleaner and it also helps keep teeth mineralized.
Chia seeds and Sesame seeds are two of the best seeds reported for being rich in calcium which is helpful for fortifying teeth. Sesame seeds, in particular, have been said to help remove streptococcus bacteria from the mouth, keeping teeth cleaner.
These are just 3 types of foods that our Edmond dentist wanted to talk about, but we have a few more to talk about during our second post of this month so stay tuned!
An important side note: Our Edmond dentist would like to say that just because you start eating the "right" foods doesn't mean that you can forego dental treatments if you want to maintain healthy oral hygiene. To maintain your beautiful smile routine dental care is crucial. If you would like to make an appointment with our Edmond dentist, please give Wallace Family Dentistry a call at 405-340-0411.
